As you look around at how today's youth interact with each other, you have to
ask yourself: "Was I like this at that age? Or am I am I witnessing some new phenomenon?"
Boys stake-out corners, eyes fixed on the girls as they gesture and display their masculine prowess. A girl passes by, smiles, and stares at the floor. Friends text each other from across the room, winking and whispering.
The music starts; the girls start dancing with each other. The boys are too cool,
for now, to dance, and watch—waiting for an extrovert to jump in and make them
follow.
The girls ignore the boys as passively as they can. Then, all hell breaks loose;
some egos are stroked; some broken. The grinding starts. The music gets
louder. Shirts fly off; clicques form; tears are shed.
